++++INLOADING DATAFILE 009++++ Imperial Helicopter WIP

Here is something I worked up last night. Its a conversion from the Stormraven kit to turn it into a helicopter for my Merrikan Imperial Guard army to use as valkyries. it took me a few hours, ok a LOT of hours of test fitting to figure out what sort of design I was going to go for, but eventually I had an "Ah HA!" moment. Once that happened it only took 2 hours or so to work out how to build it.

I still need to do a lot of detail work to fill in the visible gaps with plasticard and green stuff, but so far it looks really good. The amazing thing is that so far I have only used parts from the Stormraven kit and that after the conversion is done the wings, engines, and turret are all left over. Going to need to do some more conversions with those later on.

Next up I need to figure out a solution for the rotor blades. Right now I'm torn between using the fins from a drop pod as shown below or using the rotor blades from an actual helecopter model kit. The advantages of the drop pod things is that they make it cheaper and they are stronger and less likely to break, while the ones from a model kit will look "modern" and require almost no work to make. Please give your feedback on which I should go with.

I also need to come up with a name for this.  If you have any ideas please post them in the comments below.  More to come on this soon.

  1. wow!!!

That looks amazing man, great conversion! It's got a real Mil 24 Hind look to it!

I think you should go with the 4 rotor drop pod blades, they suit the scale and theme of the vehicle nicely.

  2. The drop pod fins are going to require a lot of sanding to make reasonable rotor blades. They are too blunt. They'd never quite look right. They're also very recognizable as drop pod fins, and that just spoils the illusion for me.

That said, the helicopter body looks awesome!

  3. Awesome. Probably use the 4 drop pod blades.

  4. This really cool, I like the four blades better but I agree that you should sand them down
