++++INLOADING DATAFILE 064++++ IA 13 has entered the building!

Just a quick update today, Santa was good to me and delivered my very own copy of Imperial Armour 13: War Machines of the Lost and the Damned! This book is beautiful and crammed full of evil awesomeness. It's also much thicker than previous IA books I have had.

Now no one can complain about me playing my army without a physical copy of the book.

Tomorrow I'm going on vacation with my girlfriend for a few days, and then I should start getting very busy at work in January (I'm a personal trainer, we do about 80% of our business for the year in the month of January.). So updates will be a bit sporadic, but don't worry there will be plenty more Renegade goodness coming along soon.

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 063++++ Putting paint on models

Today and tomorrow I've been trying to finish getting my Renegades and Heretics Army ready for the start of the local 40k league at the beginning of January.

The requirement is a two color minimum, so that's the goal. This is the first time I've posted pics of my whole army all lined up, as you can see there are quite a few heretics still to paint!

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 062++++ Malcador Heavy Tank WIP 2

It took me three and a half hours but the left side of the Malcador is very nearly done, lack of sponsons aside.

The road wheel axels were made by using some Oyimaru to mold a copy of that part of a chimera. It worked pretty well, though not all the rivets came out well.

I discovered the perfect tool for tiny rivets today: a regular ball point pen. It won't punch all the way through the thin plasticard as it has a rounded tip, which was the issue with my prior rivet making tools.

Now I'm off to the shop for our league night. I have so much painting to get done it's sad.

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 061++++ Oyimaru Reusable Plastic Clay

Also called instant mold by some people this stuff is awesome:

I just got it in this week from Hong Kong, apparently it isn't sold in the US.  It is the same material as a mouthguard as near as I can tell.  Essentially you place it into boiling water and make a press mold by pushing a model into it.  I whipped up some simple 2 piece molds of my Truescale Marine kit, as well as a whole bunch of other bitz, and this is that it popped out.

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 060++++ Renegade Ogryns WIP 1.1

Just a quick post tonight. I have started the second Renogryn and swapped out the ripper gun for a giant fire axe on the original guy. I'm off to play some 40k!

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 059++++ Renegade Ogryns WIP 1.0

Ok so I have been very busy for the last week or so. I have been prepping for finals and I also had drill this weekend. Not to let the blog go untended here is a post I've intended to make for a long while.

One of my favorite units from the Chaos Renegades army are Renegade Ogryns. While they may not be the most competitive unit (barring taking a bunker with an escape hatch) and are very pricey these guys rediculously devastating when they make it into combat. This is a unit that your opponent HAS to deal with and has a lot of staying power with 3 T5 wounds per model and usually a 4+ save.

This was the one test model I did 3 years ago of a renegade ogryn using a Minotaur model as the base. I never finished him, even though I have enough minotaurs to do 9! The reason he was never finished was that at the time the only rules I could use for him were from the IG codex, but as I was playing CSM that didn't work well. Now that they have rules again I've decided to dig him out and finish the unit.

The gun was from an ork dreadnought. As they have no ranged weapon options again I will be taking this off him.

The one Khorne devoted FW model has a sack of skulls, which seemed rather awesome so this fellow also has one.

As you can see I did a lot of greenstuffing on this fellow. The backpack is an old death wind globator piece I got years ago, and it's always underwhelmed me on this model.

The power claw is from an old ghazkull kit that I also got off someone years ago. It represents the power drill option for the unit, str 10 ap2 armourbane WITHOUT unwieldy, yes please!

The face isn't finished, it needs more details and tubes so you can tell its a mask better.

Look at those boots. Those horribly time consuming to sculpt boots. Also doing the bottom of the trousers was a challenge but came out right.

I am a bit afraid that without the gun arm he might be too top heavy and fall over. I hope I'm wrong on that one.

This is my cheatsheet for my final tonight. It is what has been taking up my mini time.

Ok more stuff later this week!

++++INLOADING DATAFILE 058++++ Malcador Heavy Tank WIP 1

My local FLGS is planning a 'bring a tank' event in which every player has 250 points to take a single tank in a free for all battle royale. I haven't built any tanks for my renegades army yet, so I decided that I should best get started!

After looking through what supplies I had I found a really old Atlas Tank Recovery Vehicle kit I picked up about 5 years ago. This was never forgeworld's best kit, the boom arm for the winch was a poorly constructed piece and so I never decided to put it together. I only paid $10 for it though so I held onto it hoping to use it for something someday.

I decided to use it was the basis for a Malcador Heavy Tank by chopping the top into two separate pieces to make room for a turret.

The tracks were done rather quickly, it is moving along quite fast so far, though obviously I have a lot of additional detailing still left to do.

More to come on this later, the sides will be an interesting challenge.
